Filming the Second Movie & Beginning Post Production

Yesterday we finished up filming our second film Ghostly Encounters. Karl was behind the camera a lot on this shoot, lending his directorial vision to the feel of the movie.

Above he directs Ben in a particularly tricky scene.
But where was Everett? Try to spot him in the picture below.

Need a hint? He's that ghost who is treacherously pulling the chair out from under an unsuspecting Ben! Poor Ben had to put up with many ghostly antics in this shoot! Even though we will never see Everett's face in this production, he certainly left an indelible mark on the production.

Today, we began the post production segment of the film studio. We managed to piece together a rough cut of the film, and began to add in sound effects and scoring. Tomorrow we will finish smoothing everything out, make our titles, and of course our blooper reel!

Tomorrow also marks the conclusion of the advanced session of 2 Films, 2 Weeks. It's been lots of fun. Family and friends, please join us tomorrow at the BEC at 4pm for our celebratory screening!

Week Two

We've started shooting our second film about a lonely man and a surprising discovery that he makes. We're trying out a new editing technique called the clone effect. I became so caught up in filming today that I neglected to take any pictures :( Luckily we will still be filming tomorrow. So pictures are on their way!

The boys are certainly blossoming into accomplished filmmakers. Karl made us do so many takes, but it was worth it because he was able to achieve his unique, artistic vision.

I can't wait to see how this film comes out!

Continuing Production and Beginning Post Production

Today we finished up filming our movie. We had to get some more footage for an awesome fight sequence at the beginning of the film. The train at the depot has proved to be an invaluable set piece to our production!

Ben once again manned the camera for these final shots.

After about an hour, we returned to home base and began post production. We managed to get through an entire rough cut of our film! Below, Everett tries his hand at editing using Final Cut Pro 6.

We just have to smooth out some sound, add some transitions and effects (and of course a blooper reel) and we'll be able to get started on our second movie!

Great work this week, everyone! Have a nice weekend. I look forward to hearing all of our budding film makers' ideas for the second film!

Filming Day 1

Today's day of filming certainly was long, but well worth the hard work! The day started out a little rough due to unexpected construction at our intended shooting location; luckily as I was searching for a place to park, I stumbled on the Corvallis Train Depot. The train depot is a really cool place with a disused passenger train, and a well-weathered train platform. This setting really has lent a special look to our film so far!

Everett and Karl were excellent as the two actors/ninjas. They look so professional!

Ben filmed the majority of this movie, and it is obvious that he is becoming more and more comfortable behind the camera!

Here, I stepped in as boom operator, while Ben filmed, and Everett confronted Karl.

Everyone worked so well together. We managed to complete most of our filming. We just have to finish up an extended fight sequence tomorrow before we can start editing.

I am so glad that the construction was going on near our original location, this unexpected but fortuitous event helped make today even more fun and memorable!

I can't wait to keep filming and start editing tomorrow!!

2 Films, 2 Weeks Advanced Session Begins!

We have officially kicked off the advanced session of 2 Films, 2 Weeks! Yesterday we analyzed some script excerpts to give us an idea of some professional screenwriting techniques. Then, we brainstormed ideas for our own screenplay and drafted it. It is going to be absolutely HILARIOUS! I'd tell you what its about but that would be a spoiler!

Below, the boys are hard at work on their screenplay...

Today, we practiced directing each other to elicit the most real and convincing emotions. We also practiced camera placement. Hopefully everyone is completely refreshed on camera operation! Our script to work with was about a rather nerdy but endearing student on the first day of school who was in love with his school supplies. (Who hasn't been there?)

Tomorrow, we begin filming our movie. I'll just say that we have a really awesome title in the works for it!
